Oops. I thought I was in the Meta category. I must have mis-clicked, hit Gear Recommendations accidentally, and not noticed. I have undone the downvotes and will delete the other comment. Sorry about the confusion. (more) |

A: Durable backpack that won't rip if carried on one shoulder 20-25 kg, or 45-55 pounds weight, is too much to expect to carry on your shoulders. That's especially true if only over one shoulder. Not only will that put a lot of stress on the shoulder straps, but a lot of stress on your shoulders too. However, that weight is within range of a "overnight" ba... (more) |

A: To leaf peep in Adirondack Park, how many Scenic ViewPoints can you drive up to? Adirondack park is large, especially by northeast US standards. There are quite a number of roads, from main paved roads to lesser paved roads, to good dirt roads, etc. There is something for every type of car, and plenty for ordinary road cars. There are more scenic turnouts than on a typical r... (more) |

Most bird nests are too small for more than one adult sitting on eggs. Once the chicks hatch, you don't see an adult in the nest at all. Eagles are unusual in that the nest is big enough for everyone. Also, where do birds sleep when they aren't nesting? Most bird nests are left empty all the time... (more) |

A: Where's this mountain road, in Kumamoto Japan? This road looks too hazardous and narrow for automobiles, because there's no fence! What kind of road is this? Solely for pedestrians? That's clearly an automobile road. Having a steep dropoff on one side of the road is really not that unusual. The normal way to deal with that is to add a guardr... (more) |

If you already know the town, then why can't you just look around with Google Earth? This ridge with the road cut is quite distinctive, and should be easy to spot within a general location. (more) |

Great clue! I missed that one. I have to do some real work now (the kind they pay me for), but I'll do some digging with Google Earth later using your clue. You should put this in an answer so that it can be upvoted. (more) |

Instead of showing us a picture with a bunch of stuff, then saying to ignore part of it, you should crop the picture to the relevant part in the first place. That's basic courtesy when asking a bunch of people for a favor. (more) |

Jig Radio, Wiesbaden? I found the picture below in a stash of things that belonged to my father. My father served in the US army during WWII in the signal corps. He was referred to unofficially as a "radio repairman" apparently. After the war ended, he continued to be employed by the army as a civilian for a couple o... (more) |

I think @Canina's post does a good job of describing the requirements for picture identification questions. I would rather judge each question on its own merits than artificially limit users to a certain number of concurrent questions, whether good or bad. The points in Canina's post are spelled ou... This is what I've been trying to say here and there, but were able to state it clearly and in one place. I completely agree. This is what our site policy should be. Perhaps this should be a separate meta post so that it can be unambiguously voted on without all the other tangents in this questions... (more) |

These kind of dumps are not OK unless you have some personal connection with the picture, show evidence of reasonable research and explain why it failed, and give us... (more) |

I don't mind a single user asking more than one <i>legitimate</i> picture identification question at a time. While "legitimate" is hard to nail down, @Canina's post pretty much nails my feelings too. @Mithical: While there can be some disagreement about what is rude and not, some of the deleted comments wouldn't be interpreted as rude by any reasonable standards. For example <i>"What research have you done to narrow this down? Why was it unsuccessful?"</i>. (more) |

You've said similar things before, but there hasn't been much rudeness at all here. Asking users what research they have done, or even just pointing out that the site rules require some research before posting is not rude. Yet, comments like that have disappeared, presumably deleted by you? If so,... (more) |

A: Where's this view of the Columbia River George located? Yes, that picture does indeed seem to be taken from White Salmon, WA. A: When and where to happen upon Aurora Borealis in Vancouver, BC? The sun is currently in the more active part of its cycle, where solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CME) are more common. I could accept requests to ID such widely-seen pictures, as long as some basic research was attempted. Say what clues you see in the picture, how you tried to follow up on them, and explain how that didn't work. At least that shows you tried. It then feels more like jointly trying to find clues an...
