Magnets come in all shapes and sizes. So do flashlights. I'm sure if you search enough, you can find a flashlight with a magnet-compatible (e.g., most types of steel) case and with a flat enough section that you can securely hold it with magnets to the roof of a car. (more) |

A: How can I attach a BARE (no accessories) flashlight to a rental car, to illuminate the hinterland ahead? Magnets While not exactly the same, a few years ago when I had my car towed, I saw incredible advances in technology in such a seemingly mundane activity. Tracking of the tow truck via GPS location on my phone until he got to my location Radio controlled (Zigbee? Bluetooth?) flashing lights ... (more) |

(b) if there are no changes (or only small changes) between GPS reads, slow down the GPS reading interval until a GPS read gets a big change *or* there is accelerometer movement - this makes a huge difference in power consumption. End result - if it is just sitting in one spot all night, very infreq... (more) |

I am fairly certain that for battery/power conservation reasons, a typical smartphone (don't know if this applies to a dedicated GPS device, but suspect it may) will (a) use an accelerometer to improve things quite a bit - e.g., no measurement via accelerometer and tiny change by GPS treat as no chan... Seeing now another Meta question about swimming pools with cbrumbaugh saying that's on topic, logically road racing would be on-topic too. My thought *but I am not one of the key people here, just an interested bystander* was that road racing isn't "outdoorsy" enough. But it looks like my definition ... (more) |

With other types of meat there are dried options designed to keep a very long time at room temperature - dried salami, beef jerky, etc. I don't know if such options exist for chicken. (more) |

I think it depends on whether they are related to "Outdoors". Mountain biking, biking to go camping, biking trails through parks, etc. - *yes*. Road racing - *no*. (more) |

A: Do we want to know the visits per page? I'd say no, for now. Counting page views is a bit tricky, at best. If you only include signed in users then basic counting is easy, but counting unique visitors is more difficult, typically requiring a database post to log every visit. If you include all traffic (including not-logged-in), th... (more) |

403 error on editing a question If I click on the edit link on a question (e.g., https://outdoors.codidact.com/questions/74859/edit ), I get a 403 page. This is either a bug (i.e., I should be able to edit) or a feature (I'm not supposed to be able to edit due to low Trust Level). If it is a bug, please fix. If it is a fea... (more) |

What country or area (if it is a large country) are you in? That can make a **huge** difference. In my area (Montgomery Country, Maryland, USA), they have actually closed streets through some parks as (a) there isn't as much traffic (there are parallel streets elsewhere so no access is lost) (b) it a...
