Question | — |
Durable backpack that won't rip if carried on one shoulder I'm looking for a backpack that I can use to schlepp all my stuff around while hiking and taking buses around the country (and possibly out of it). Every backpack I've used so far has eventually ripped due to the weight of the stuff I carry around, so I'm looking for something extremely durable. P... (more) |

Question | — |
How can I get oil out of my MTB disc brake pads? I went to get something on my mountain bike checked out at the bike shop, and at the same time they told me that my brake pads were absorbing oil. Short of replacing the disc brake pads, is there any way I can remove oil from the pads without ruining them? I replaced them not too long ago, so I'd ... (more) |

Question | — |
Why is the official guidance to entirely detach fall protective gear before moving from a mechanically elevated platform to a tower? While taking the certification course for working at height, the official recommendation for moving from a cherrypicker / crane device to a tower was to completely detach your fall protective gear - such as the double lanyard - from the cherrypicker before reattaching the fall protective gear to the ... There seems to be a disconnect to some degree between various members of the community here about what constitutes "rude" comments, @#36396. Our [Code of Conduct](https://outdoors.codidact.com/policy/code-of-conduct) is intentionally fairly vague on that point, but it does say this:

Ah, yes, I should mention that the roads I'm referring to are very rural, with long stretches of windy, hilly roads with no streetlights. That does change things slightly. (more) |

Question | — |
How do I safely ride my road bike in the winter? It's November, and in the Northern Hemisphere, winter is fast approaching - and with it, the rain. As a cyclist, I do occasionally enjoy taking my road bike out on the roads and just pedaling, without the added technical challenge that mountain biking involves. However, I've as yet not done this i... (more) |

Moderator tags appear to be messed up on Outdoors Looking at posts tagged [status-completed], or the tags list for the category, it becomes evident that the [status-completed] tag isn't showing up formatted as a moderator tag and the other status tags don't exist: Screenshot of the tags page, showing a status-completed tag the same color as the o... A: How to refine search for multiple words? There's now a help center article available at /help/search that has some guidance on how to refine your searches. @manassehkatz - why would road racing be off topic? It is most definitely an outdoor activity (leaving aside indoor trainers at the moment). Maybe the race mechanics, sure, but I don't see why questions about road _bikes_ and road biking in general wouldn't be on-topic. I don't think the mechanics of... (more) |

A: Adjusting derailleur with bike upside down, is it ok? (For reference: I am a cyclist. I train with professionals, although I don't plan on becoming a pro myself, and I'm currently finishing up getting my cycling coaching license.) Yes, adjusting your derailleur with the bike upside-down is fine. This will allow you to pedal while adjusting, which is ... (more) |
