Actually you might want to keep the chicken in the can, and you probably do not want to cook fresh chicken at home and bring it with you. The [USDA](https://www.fsis.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsis/topics/food-safety-education/get-answers/food-safety-fact-sheets/poultry-preparation/chicken-from-farm-to-table/ct_index) recommends that cooked chicken at room temperature be eaten with in 2 hours, 1 hour if it is over 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32C). You could potentially freeze the cooked chicken, and let it defrost on the trail as you walk. BUT defrosting at room temperature is not recommend. **TLDR:** 2 hours max.
