Question To locals without a tide chart, how surprising are tides?
People have put a lot of work into predicting tides. To a local, who knows the conditions of a certain area, are tide tables really necessary? How surprising are the tides ever going to be to someone who's been sailing the same bay for decades?

Question Water filter that handles mercury?
Is there any camping water filter that handles mercury in the water? I live in an area with lots of cinnabar (mercury ore), so all the streams have some mercury content. According to the local water authorities, the lake in the area has: mercury up to 35 ppb methylmercury up to 10 ppb
