I can't speak specifically to "indoor climbers", but i've definitely witnessed some fairly common overall plateaus, and experienced a few myself with regards to outdoor climbing. I would however say that it is VERY dependent on the person... and the ones that are common are typically in the mid-range...

It isn't poor etiquette per se, however one should remember that many people who are out on an adventure are doing so to get away from people, and for a lot of people, it can be rather annoying and intrusive to get "talked up" by every person who passes.
