Answer A: Where to carry a folding knife when hiking?
IMHO. Folding blades are really only meant for concealment and aren't good for long term, heavy duty use. I have used many folding blades throughout the years for protection as well as in the woods for using on multiple tasks. Their poor design is that it uses a hinge and locking mechanism to exte...

Answer A: Lighting a fire using a flint and steel
Simple demonstration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVpGFAJmG3g. The trick is to pull the Flint-stick towards you while keeping the scraper stationary. Make sure you are using something dry, tiny, or chard cloth, or fine steel wool works well. I've never had a problem with mine, but I still like to ...

I have tried a few different methods of carrying gear within different packs. (I've used a KoolerTron, A.L.I.C.E pack and East German Pack.) By far; my...

Answer A: Should I bring my dog with us to a Cabin
Honestly. I think this should have been addressed with your friends and/or the campsite/resort. If you know all this and the 2 dogs get along then, take your dog. The worse that will happen is that your, or both, dogs will have to be leashed. I honestly don't see how this should be a community questi...

Answer A: Why shouldn't I buy an ultra light tent?
IMHO. You shouldn't buy new. Throughout my attempts to find that "one great tent" I've waisted so much money buying all the "best reviewed" ones, and ones I thought would serve my needs. To be honest, the best tent I ever slept in was an old cotton canvas covered with bee's wax to repel water. But th...
