Question Is there really no way to rescue a climber from the death zone?
I have watched many documentaries about accidents on Everest and what I learned is, that it is impossible to rescue anybody from the death zone. It is simply too hard for the sherpas, or anybody else to carry somebody. So, when a climber is unable to stand on his own feet, he is left there, basically...

I am planning to do a 16 day "standard" Everest base camp trek in Nepal coming September. Can I expect to visit Camp 1 (or even beyond?) as well or is this completely off limits for casual tourists? I read that, summit expeditions will stay at base camp for weeks, in order to acclimatize for the su...

Question Self rescue procedure when falling through ice, but the ice keeps breaking
There are a lot of videos and instructions out there on what to do when you fall through ice: You turn the direction you came from, pull and kick until you get out and roll yourself to safety. But what is the procedure, if you are in the middle of the lake, you break through, but the ice all around ...
