Question Is 30-06 too high caliber for hunting wild boar?
I am thinking of hunting wild boar in Texas, which I've never done before. All info and videos I see mention the calibers they use and I don't really hear about people using 30-06. Is that just too high caliber for a boar?

Question Outfitter does "game prep but not processing"
I am considering going on a guided hunt with an outfitter. This is the first time I've done hunts for game that you can stock your freezer with. I keep coming across the statement that the outfitter will do "game prep but not processing". What exactly does that mean?

Question What is the responsible way to sell a firearm?
I am moving to a different state soon. In order to make the move easier I have decided to sell some of my firearms. I live in a state that doesn't have universal background checks, unfortunately. What is the most responsible way to sell my firearms? From other listings I have seen, most people just...

Question Carrying small game while hunting on foot?
I like to hunt on foot, walking through the desert. I mostly shoot jackrabbits since those are plentiful in my area. However, I still haven't found a good system for carrying the animals back to the car once I am done. I might walk up to 3 miles (5 km) and shoot jackrabbits along the way and I'm al...

Answer A: What are the laws for backcountry ("dispersed") camping in the US?
The biggest landowner in the US, and that allows widespread camping, is the Bureau of Land Management, or BLM. They have offices on a state and regional level. If you visit the web pages of the BLM in the state(s) that you are going to visit, then I'm sure that you will find information on maps and a...

Answer A: Is it safe to fire 38 caliber rounds in a 357 magnum pistol?
NEVER, EVER fire a round in your pistol that it was not designed for! The only caliber that you should be using is the one that is written on the frame of the weapon. If your issues are rooted in how the gun makes you feel, then the answer is to consider buying a firearm with a different caliber.

Answer A: Legal deep-woods campsites or forests that allow off-trail hiking and ad hoc camping in Maryland?
What you are describing is also known as "primitive camping" and searching for that in your state might lead to better results. Camping is allowed on all land that is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in your state. If you look up your local MD BLM office, their web page might contain ...

Question Where is the Benelli R1 made?
I might be in the market for a new Benelli R1. But I can't seem to get a straight answer on where it is made. Obviously, I know that Benelli is a Beretta company and the Benelli address is listed in MD (not far from Accokeek). But is the Benelli R1 made in the US or is it made in Italy, or somewhere ...

Question Is Gaia GPS inaccurate for distances?
In a previous question, I had asked for help in finding a GPS app with certain features. That led me to find Gaia GPS and it has been great, no complaints. However, I had a situation recently. I found a hike through an online guidebook and it was listed as 3.1 miles. I went out and did a track on it...

Question How late in the season can you hunt coyote?
It's currently April and I know that's considered late in the season for hunting coyote. Given that I live in a desert climate, how late can you hunt coyote? Is there a reason why I couldn't hunt them into the summer and other parts of the year? I have already checked with my local/state laws and the...

Question Selecting magnification for binoculars for hunting at 100 yards?
I am trying to find some binoculars for hunting. I generally zero my rifle to fire at 100 yards. I really can't imagine shooting animals much further than this distance, although for scouting and getting a larger field of view, I might want to go out to 150 yards. What is an appropriate magnification...

Question What is an appropriate caliber for hunting mule deer?
I am new to hunting and am looking at various options. I am considering doing some hunting for mule deer in Montana. But I am unsure of an appropriate caliber for them. To increase my shooting skills, I practice with an AR-15 in 223 but I have a feeling that this caliber is not good for mule deer. Wh...

Why all the lights? you could solve everything you need and have a REALLY cool event with nothing but a lot of glow sticks :) Make people wear different colors for different teams, then one each side of the body for arms, hips and legs (so 6 glow sticks per person). That should be more than enough fo...

Answer A: 4x4 vs AWD off road
I love going for off-road drives in my Audi Q5 with quattro (she's no asphalt queen!). I think that you need to consider tires and ground clearance just as much as the drivetrain of your car. Good tires intended for off-road will give you significant improvement over street-only tires. I'm not sayi...

Answer A: How do I find north using a watch?
There is another way that was taught to me in the Boy Scouts. You need a watch with traditional hour and minute hands, make sure it is showing the accurate time Take a small stick, like a toothpick, and stand it up vertically in the center of the watch. Make the shadow of the stick fall on the cu...

Question Snake dangers while hunting in the desert?
I plan to start doing some hunting in the greater southern Nevada Mojave desert (say within a 2 hour drive of Las Vegas). I know that while hiking, there is some "safety" from snakes because you are alerting them to your presence with your steps and things like that. But what about when you are hunt...

Answer A: Bare Essentials for 2-3 day Hike
You don't mention any first-aid or survival items. I would include a first aid kit with maybe a compass and signaling mirror, maybe a firestarter of some kind. I would think that would add a negligible amount of weight to your rig.
