Where can I find the data to turn topographical maps into STL files?

I am looking to 3d print some models of different places, it should be possible to take the same data that is used for making topographical maps and turn that into STL files which I can then 3d print.

Where would I find that data or a website that will do the conversion for me?

There are two free sites I have found.

  1. https://touchterrain.geol.iastate.edu/ Easy to use, will cut the box into tiles if you want to do the print in sections, lets you set how big your print bed is.

  2. http://jthatch.com/Terrain2STL/ Simpler, with less settings but definately not as nice to use as the first.

  3. https://terrainator.com/ One more site that I haven't used as it's not free.
