Rather than take a can of chicken while backpacking, it's possible to open the can, drain the juice and stick the meat into a ziplock which makes it much lighter and a ziplock is much more compact than a squashed can. It does need to be eaten fairly quickly into the trip to avoid spoiling. How long is the chicken still good before it spoils?
