<p>Our analog altimeter, which we had had for over 20 years, was stolen this summer.  We are now faced with a choice between digital or analog altimeters. </p>

<p>What are pros and cons between the two? (e.g., reliability, accuracy, sensitivity, ease of use while backpacking) Are there any other devices that can tell us our altitude and the number of vertical feet we have hiked since we last stopped to breathe?    </p>
