Lightweight, packable jackets for cold winter camping
Recommendations for warm winter jackets to be worn in camp.
It should pack down small, so you can stash it in your pack when you are on the move (and anyway warm). For the same reason it shouldn't be too heavy either.[1]
At the time of writing this implies high fillpower down insulation, but feel free to suggest synthetic alternatives as well. Perhaps they'll one day achieve superior warmth to weight ratio.
Target temp: -20C

Relatively speaking. Ofc winter gear is always going to be somewhat bulky. ↩︎

Rab Mythic Ultra Down Jacket
This is one of the few down jackets in this range with boxed baffle construction on the torso at least (as opposed to leaky stitch through). Very warm and as light as they come.
A note about sizing
The fit is too slim for proper layering underneath. Probably they wanted to push the grams lower by shrinking the size for marketing reasons.. I recommend taking one size bigger than usual.
