What difference is removing wolves from the list of animals protected by the Endangered Species Act in the US going to make?

Wolves are going to be removed from the list of animals protected by the Endangered Species Act (pending litigation). They were already delisted in Montana and Idaho and had a hunting season in Wyoming.

What difference will this make assuming that it goes through?

It can allow more hunting, depending on local regulations where the wolves are. It will also make it easier to kill or otherwise deal with wolves where they interfere with human activity, like raising livestock.

Another issue is that impact on endangered species is considered in some permitting processes, particularly those that require federal Environmental Impact Statements. If wolves are de-listed, then impacts on them are no longer a consideration for many large projects.
