There are two main kinds of railed mounting systems for rifle scopes and some other types of rifle attachments like bipods or lights known as Weaver and Picatinny.

What is the compatibility between the two systems?

Weaver mounts will fit onto either Weaver or Picatinny rails, while Picatinny mounts are only guaranteed to fit onto Picatinny rails.

As time has gone by this has become less and less of a problem as Picatinny rails have become the standard, not just for mounting scopes but also bipods and other attachments to rifles.

At one point Ruger was making their own type of rails for some rifles, but after enough complaints, they changed to Picatinny because the proprietary rails wouldn't fit all scope mounts.

The bottom line is that you are looking for Picatinny rails to attach to, and then either Weaver or Picatinny scope rings.
