What's this Spanish insect?

+2
−0

Seen in November in the Rincón de Ademuz, Valencian Community, Spain.

I'm not sure whether the "tail" is a stinger or just wing cases, and I didn't want to find out! This was a pretty large insect, maybe about 5cm long not including the "tail".

Insect with long light-to-mid brown legs, a dark brown back and head, light yellow underside and edges of the carapace segments, and a very light orange dimpled extrusion at the back of the "neck". The "tail" referred is a light brown needle-shaped protusion which curves lightly upwards and appears to be divided in two by a vertical crack.

Partial or complete identification would be appreciated.

That looks like a Spanish Saddle Bush-cricket (Ephippigerida areolaria) of the Ephippiger genus.

The coloration and the area are right and its looks like a female.
